The Briars
If you ever find yourself in Kettering and you're craving a hearty meal, a cheeky pint, or just a place with proper British pub vibes, The Briars on Brambleside might be just what you need. Nestled at 71 Brambleside, The Briars is more than just your average neighbourhood pub-it's a local gem where comforting food, friendly service, and a well-poured beer come together effortlessly.
The moment you step inside, the warm, welcoming atmosphere hits you-think crackling fireplace, casual chatter, and the subtle clink of cutlery against plates. It’s a space that’s both cosy and lively, whether you’re dropping in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. For those with accessibility needs, the venue is impressively accommodating-wheelchair-friendly entrances, seating, toilets, and even a car park, making it easy for everyone to join the table.
Food-wise, The Briars doesn’t mess around. The menu reads like a love letter to British classics, but with enough variety to keep things interesting. The Fish and Chips are a solid choice-crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, served just the way you'd hope for in a proper pub. If you’re after something more robust, the Mixed Grill is a protein-packed plate that’ll leave you full for hours. It’s a hit with the regulars for a reason.
Vegetarians and vegans aren’t left out either. Dishes like Halloumi Fries or some of their organic small plates add thoughtful options to the mix, proving that pub grub can cater to everyone. For the sweet-toothed among us, the Caramel Apple Crumble or Chocolate Fudge Cake are absolute no-brainers. They're rich, indulgent, and exactly what dessert should be.
Looking for something a little out of the ordinary? The Pork Belly with Grilled Veggies served on a hot skillet comes sizzling to the table, drawing eyes from neighbouring diners. It’s got that wow factor, and the flavours back it up. The Black Blue Burger also deserves a shout-juicy, messy, and perfectly balanced with just the right kick of spice.
Drinks are another strong point here. Whether it’s a cold pint of Birra or Cider, a robust red wine, or a frothy cappuccino, The Briars keeps its offerings wide and well-curated. The beer list is especially impressive, earning praise for its variety and quality. For a relaxed evening with mates or solo time at the bar, the drink selection really sets the tone.
And let's not forget the entertainment. The Briars isn’t just about food and drink-it’s a bit of a social hub. With quiz nights, bar games, and live sports on screen, there’s usually something going on. It's the kind of place where locals come to unwind after work or kick off the weekend. Even if you're popping in for a quick sundae or a coffee, you'll likely find yourself staying longer than planned.
One more thing that stands out is the balance between traditional pub charm and contemporary comfort. The venue doesn't try too hard-it simply delivers. From the Sweet Potato Fries and Chicken combo to the Sirloin Steak grilled just right, there’s an authenticity in every dish that feels rooted in experience, not trend-chasing.
With dine-in, takeaway, and on-site services available, The Briars offers flexible options for however you want to enjoy your meal. While delivery isn't on the cards, it’s well worth the trip-especially if you're a fan of generous portions and genuine hospitality.
For breakfast lovers, early birds are in luck-The Briars is popular during the morning rush, serving up comforting plates that kick-start the day right. Whether it’s a full English or something lighter, there’s enough variety to suit every appetite.
What really makes The Briars special is that it feels like a place that belongs to the community. It’s not about frills or flash-it’s about substance, soul, and that familiar feeling of being exactly where you want to be.

Attended yesterday in a group of 21. They were under staffed 2 on the bar 1 in the kitchen and were told that maybe up to an hour and a half was the place was so busy. Not a spair seat in the place. They did an amazing job. Food was no more than 30 minutes and was perfect. They 2 lady's kept up with everything. Someone was at the bar, and they got served. Someone finished at a table, and it was cleared and cleaned. The 2 female staff had smiles despite being clearly under pressure but made everyone feel welcome and check all was ok. I really do not know how they both managed to stay in good spirits with a non-stop roll off people food and drinks. I can only imagine they are the dream team. Well done, ladies, and well done, chef, everything was perfect.

Great atmosphere, great staff and great food. Very accommodating 12 of us dining and all food hot and out at the same time. Drink very reasonable too. We live in Donegal and always make time for a visit here when we are over.
